The 2025/26 Banbury League season is now 5 weeks old. Fritwell “A” have started with a very solid performance; winning 2 of their 4 games to date, beating Tadmarten “B” and Shipston “A” both 6-4. New Fritwell resident, and new to the Banbury Table Tennis League, Darren Anderson has been our star performer! Although he lost his first 2 competitive games, Darren has been unbeaten since against his subsequent 7 opponents.
Fritwell “B” have also started the season well! Apart from captain, Ian Critchley, the rest of the team haven’t played competitive Table Tennis before. So this, our first season, was always going to be about developing skills and experience. And that’s what’s happening! The “B” team players are competing against tough opponents who’ve been playing League matches for decades, and still they are winning sets! Josh McIlroy, Josh Challinor and Andy Dayus, all in their first League matches, taking sets from players who have at least 50 years of competitive experience between them…
And finally a shout out to the Fritwell “Massif”!! Fritwell now officially have the best supported teams in the Banbury League! So thanks to those of our Fritwell neighbours who are coming along on Monday evenings to watch competitive Table Tennis at the Village Hall…
Keep a look out for further updates on Fritwell Table Tennis as the season progresses!!
PS/ If you’d like to join the “crowd” at the “Kitchen End” on Match nights, come down to the Village Hall on Monday evenings. You’ll be made very welcome and … its got to be better than the tele!!!
