As we ramp up our fund-raising efforts for a new village hall, it is good to see that some of our established events still draw significant support from Fritwell locals.

Despite performing at a recent fund-raising event playing electric guitars and supporting David Bradley, last Saturday was the first Fritwell Live since the extremely hectic Christmas event on December 16th.

The atmosphere was great. Frets and Strings engineered some much-enjoyed breaks in performances by restricting the number of people turning up to play. The night reminded us of the talent that exists within the village, and it was particularly good to see Finn performing and gaining confidence. Ben Wheeler performed a self-penned tune for the first time, and it has been universally acclaimed—well done, Ben!

It was good to see solo sets from Si from the Dyfies, and their combined set was great, especially considering they had travelled up from furthest Wales on the day! Solo sets from Carl and Ian were also a refreshing return, while Chris and Will represented the Bicester scene with extreme skill. Frets and Strings combined their usual two sets into one elongated segment to close the evening. The rip-roaring set had them literally dancing in the aisles while others joined in with the singing!. An earlier finish allowed more chat time at the end, which was much appreciated.

As usual, we extend huge and heartfelt thanks to all of the performers, knob twiddlers, excellent bar staff and all those who helped move chairs and tables, cleared up glasses or simply came, enjoyed and behaved themselves.

The next Fritwell Live is planned for May 18th.
