Billed as the Fritwell Live Christmas Special. Saturday night (16th December), the hall was once again filled with music and fun!

A record-breaking line-up kept MC Carl busy all night, and stand-in knob turner, Si “More Reverb Anyone?” Campion of the Dyfies also worked very hard and did a brilliant job.

Frets and Strings bookended a huge line-up with the return of Finn, who took on and delivered a set that included Cat Stevens vocally challenging “Father and Son” alongside a couple of his greatest hits. The angelic voice of Ben Wheeler was up next, playing a new set of three, which showcased his vocal and guitar talents (and also his command of Anglo-Saxon!).  Ian Critchley employed the burgeoning talents of cousin Max and also a passing Patrick Foley on Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters”, which sounded great.

Regular Chris Lydon (no relation) and new regular Welsh Robbie shared a slot due to the number of performers we had. They are becoming tighter with practice every time, and we are fortunate to be able to see their partnership develop. In no particular order, Triskell 3 once again entertained with three original numbers. The Dyfies + Drew played three Christmas songs inviting the returning Jen Hynes to join them for a fantastic version of Santa Baby. Jen was up again later with Carl, and performed a stirring version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Power of Love”. New regular Alyce returned with her friend Ukesnailie who we may see more of next year. Also returning from Uni was Jay, who has clearly been learning some jazz chords (Nice!). He also invited his dad, Chris to join him on guitar.

Patrick did what Patrick always does and silenced the room with four immaculate numbers before Paul and Carl gave us a tribute to Shane McGowan before Frets & Strings finished up with their usual vigour.

Huge thanks to the bar staff (Christine & Paul) and the Hall Trustees who helped the evening flow smoothly. The date for the next Fritwell Live will be released early in the new year.

Have a Happy Christmas everybody, and thank you to everyone for your continued support of this great night out!
