Another superb evening of free music presented by Frets and Strings. The standard gets better all of the time as new acts come along and raise their game to play for a very discerning and attentive audience.

This time saw the return of Finn, a young protege of Carl Hynes. He performed two songs on his own and did magnificently well. There were mutterings that maybe we have found a new Jay!! – High praise indeed.

Our event seems to have become a desirable aspiration amongst the Bicester open mic. scene, and as such, we are able to attract more and more fantastic artists who are happy to give up their free time in return for a free drink at the bar.

Robbie is relatively new to guitar and performing and has already thrilled us with his renditions of songs in English and Welsh! This time, he treated us to a song in Welsh based on a kitchen item and other songs in English. He then joined Chris (formerly Christofer from Bicestofer), as bass guitar player. I think we will see more of this dynamic duo!

Alyce returned with three self-penned numbers. She is powerful and dynamic and already a great hit in Fritwell.

Fritwell Live Stalwart Will Vetcher treated us to a unique experience, playing an Irish Bazouki – I believe he is being sponsored to do this! – He also performed some original material, which sounded really good on this instrument.

Ian Critchley treated us to a couple of his greatest hits, adding levity and humour in the absence of our own one-liner king, Colin.

The Dyfies were again enlarged and enriched by Si’s brother, Drew, on the bass guitar and backing vocals. Together, they performed a great set of songs. Janine’s flute sounded exceptional, as did Si’s vocals. And, of course, the evening was bookended by Frets and Strings, who almost managed to get through two sets before Carl’s voice gave up!

Another brilliant evening and, thanks to the sterling efforts of Christine and her team at the bar, another lump of money to swell the new village hall fund.

All of the music was once again delivered in beautiful “Mikey Sound”.

Huge thanks from the committee to all of those involved in this fabulous community event.

See you at the next one on the 16th of December!
