“Stunning event”…“Amazing hall decorations – looked like a medieval tithe barn”…
“I never knew that’s how Agincourt went?”…
“Why am I feeling so second hand” (Sunday morning comment)…
This sold-out event saw a more Horrible Histories meets Black Adder view in a pantomime atmosphere of Henry 5ths victory at the Battle of Agincourt!
Fritwell Village Hall was transformed into a medieval banqueting hall with flags, heraldry, tapestry, table decorations (including individual coats of arms) & enough flickering electric candles to get a modern-day battery manufacturer excited.
The Lord Chancellor, the Lord Archbishop, the High Executioner (with his big chopper), our resident Witch (with a proper authentic cackle) & many Lords, Ladies, Knights, Maidens & Peasants dressed up to cheer, boo, hiss & take an extortionate number of toasts during the evening.
Over 3 courses of bring-your-own-dinner, the story of the Battle of Agincourt a rare big English victory in the Hundred Years’ War was foretold in a tongue in cheek manner. The battle took place on 25 October 1415 (Saint Crispin’s Day) near Agincourt in Northern France. With visits by ye old video to the battle from (Friend of Fritwell Village Hall, Actor & Thespian) David Bradley to understand the trauma of the battle and a flowery use of pigeon franglais.
The evening finished with a rousing victory song & a chorus for all to join in with gusto, delivered by the “Fritwell Incorrigibles” – Ian C, Jon B, Mick S, Duncan C and Colin S
The event was conceived, delivered & organised by the ever-inventive mind of Ian Critchley (more therapy sessions are booked), with strong back up from Jon Boyce + support from the rest of the Incorrigibles. (Nice curtains Dunc & JB!)
Special mention to “self-styled serf” Rob Jones for his digital skills to bring us news from the battlefield and keep the audience informed on what the heck was going on.
Of course homage to the tavern and shots team of Christine D, Mark & Chrissy – sterling stuff in the heat of the battle.
There is a threat “in the ether” of the future of “staging” of such events as the Sinking of the Titanic, the 1940 miracle evacuation of Dunkirk, Godzilla attacks Tokyo amongst other brain-stormed ideas – believe any of that at your peril.
